If you know someone living with cancer, you’ll understand how it feels to want to do everything you can to support them. One way you can do just that is to help Macmillan continue its life-changing work.

Macmillan is a charity that does whatever it takes to provide essential tools and resources, not only for the millions of people living with cancer in the UK, but also their carers and their family and friends. From running free educational courses to working with the Government to shape health and social care policies, Macmillan never stops striving to improve lives.

Everyone’s journey is different, and that’s why the friendly team at Macmillan takes the time to get to know each person they meet, so they can better understand how to help. In 2019, the organisation is estimated to have reached 1.9 million people, and this year, it wants to be there for even more.

By taking part in a Macmillan Mighty Hike you’ll be playing a vital role in making that possible.

Macmillan’s Mighty Hikes

From May to September in 2022, Macmillan is organising a series of full and half marathon hikes along some of the UK’s most scenic stretches. There are plenty of beautiful trails to choose from, to suit all abilities, so gather your friends and family for a day out that makes a difference.

Whether you fancy exploring Norfolk’s tranquil coastline or the Lake District’s undulating landscape, each has a clearly marked route, so you won’t get lost along the way.

To help keep you going Macmillan provide regular refuelling stops with snacks and drinks, a cold buffet lunch and hot food at the finish. There’ll also be a finisher’s medal and a glass of bubbly waiting for you at the finish line, as a thank you for all your efforts.

Step by step

As well as being a great way to increase awareness and show support, the aim of the Mighty Hike series is to raise money so that Macmillan can continue funding their vital services for people living with cancer. When you register you will be asked to pledge to raise £250 in sponsorship for taking part in this mighty challenge.

Once you’ve signed up online, a good way to kick-start your fundraising is by setting up a JustGiving page, where people will easily be able to donate online. If you’re looking for some tips on how to go about fundraising, you’ll find a wealth of ideas on the Macmillan website, along with useful information on how to train and prepare yourself for the big day.

What’s more, Macmillan is offering participants who sign up in a group of five or more a 10% discount on their registration fee, so there’s never been a better time to team up with your loved ones and get involved.
