Read on to discover a couple of the essential Worx tools that will help you get your garden looking glorious, followed by handy tips and tricks everyone should know.
Start with the basics
The first step is to invest in a good lawn mower. For something easy to use and suitable for a wide range of lawns, the Worx 40V Power Share 4.0AH 17” Lawn Mower (WG779e) is ideal. This model, which has just been chosen as a BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine Best Buy, is a low maintenance mower that offers six cutting heights and can be easily adjusted using a lever on the side. It’s also cordless, which gives you more range, and the 4.0 Ah power supply allows for plenty of runtime, making it great for larger properties.
Cutting corners
Along with a good lawn mower, a grass trimmer will enable you to cut the more hard-to-reach areas in your garden. But for the perfect finishing touch, you’ll need a grass edger to keep the edges looking neat and tidy.
Unlike typical grass trimmers, the Worx 20V GT Revolution Grass Trimmer/Edger works as a precision string trimmer in one position, but then you can also turn the head to transform it into a wheeled edger. This two-in-one device will give you a much cleaner finish for a pristine lawn.
Five things you should know
- Know when to mow: You want to mow often enough so you’re not removing any more than a third of the height of the grass when you cut. In the spring and early summer, this might mean as often as cutting every three to four days, however it will be less frequent in late summer.
- Look sharp: For a clean cut, you should sharpen your mower blades about once every 20 hours of cutting. When mower blades are dull, they break blades of grass instead of cutting them, leading to yellow grass that’s more susceptible to disease.
- Timing is key: Mowing in the morning is better than mowing in the afternoon. With the sun high in the sky, the freshly cut grass will be at risk of drying out.
- The right height: Taller grass will be stronger, and it will also shade the ground to prevent excess water evaporation from the soil. A general rule of thumb is to cut your grass at about two to four inches.
- Change your course: Alternate directions every time you mow. If you mowed going up and back creating lines in one direction last time, mow perpendicular to those lines next time. This will prevent the grass from being pushed in one direction and help you create a more even surface on your lawn.
