Step 1
Scan the main body template into your ScanNCut SDX and cut out in black card. Put adhesive on the small tabs and fold into a box. Leave the top and bottom flap open.
Step 2
Scan and cut the templates for the top and bottom piece – it is the same template for both. Put adhesive on the small tabs and fold into a tray. Leave the large flap open.
Step 3
With all three pieces folded, slot the main body into the top and bottom piece. The small hole on the main body is where the clock mechanism will come through.
Step 4
Cut four 20cm lengths of black craft rope. Tie a knot in the end of each, then thread through the bottom holes. These will form the four columns on your carriage clock.
Step 5
Thread the other ends of the craft rope through the holes in the top piece. Tie the ends together (or tape down) to secure in place. Tuck the ends into the perimeter channel.
Step 6
Glue down the large flap on the top and bottom to secure and hide the ends of the string. Layer the front of the clock with designer paper, leaving a hole for the mechanism.
Step 7
Turn the clock over and slot the clock mechanism into the aperture at the back. Secure the mechanism in place by tightening the brass nut onto the front of the clock face.
Step 8
Add the hands to the front of the clock, then matt and layer the sides of your clock. Scan and cut the handle and attach to the top of the clock, then add adhesive gems to finish.
• Add the adhesive gems in line with the craft string columns to mimic the rivets on a real carriage clock!
• Add the large adhesive gems in line with the craft string columns to mimic the rivets on a real travel clock!
• Try to keep the craft string columns tight, and not saggy. You can do this by securing the string inside the top box with a piece of tape. Close the box and the tape is hidden!
• If you don’t have any large adhesive gems, use small buttons instead. They work great as feet, too.
• Don’t like the square-tipped hands? Use a pair of small, sharp scissors, and trim the hands into a point.
• Use a real handle instead of a faux handle for added luxury – you can pick them up in most craft shops like The Works or Hobbycraft.
