How to harvest rainwater with GARDENA
Thanks to GARDENA’s clever battery-powered pump, you can easily use any rainwater you collect to water your garden
When it comes to British summers, it’s always difficult to know what to expect, although recent years have brought more frequent periods of warm, dry weather, with many areas of the UK subject to hosepipe bans. That’s why it’s wise to harvest rainwater whenever you can, to ensure you’ll have enough available to keep your garden healthy throughout the summer months.
Rainwater is softer and generally much lower in calcium than tap water, making it better for our plants. If you want to start harvesting your own, simply invest in a water butt or barrel, and ideally place it near a greenhouse or shed with a drainage system to maximise your water collection.
But what’s the best way to use it once you’ve collected it? That’s where GARDENA can help.

GARDENA’s Battery Rainwater Tank Pump is designed for convenient and easy watering using rainwater. Simply place the pump in your water butt or barrel, then connect the telescopic tube to your hose or Micro-Drip system, and you’re good to go.
Better still, you can regulate the pump’s water flow to suit your garden’s needs or use the timer to turn it off automatically to prevent overwatering. The pump also has a safe water stop feature, which switches the pump off if there’s not enough water in the butt or barrel.
GARDENA’s Micro-Drip system explained
Micro-Drip is a water-conserving garden irrigation system that’s perfect for potted plants, vegetable beds and plant rows. Not only is it incredibly easy to set up yourself, but it can also save up to 70% of water consumption compared to standard watering methods.
The Micro-Drip system penetrates the soil right down to the roots, where plants need it most. This leaves the stems, flowers and leaves free from excess moisture, which in turn makes them less susceptible to disease.
