Our Host with the Most Liam is known for serving the most tremendous trimmings – and you can do the same with a little help from Morrisons. Sourced from trusted British growers, the supermarket’s impressive variety of fresh produce can easily be transformed into all manner of mouth-watering festive sides, from classic roasties to spiced red cabbage. Here are a few of the best ways to enjoy them...
You’ve probably seen many different roast potato recipes over the years, but you only really need to follow a few steps to perfect them. Peel, chop and parboil a big bag of Maris Pipers from Morrisons, then heat some oil or goose fat in a roasting tin in the oven. When your potatoes are ready, drain them, shake them in a colander to fluff up the edges, then season and roast them in the hot fat until they’re irresistibly crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle.
If you’re planning on cooking up some of Morrisons’ British-grown carrots and parsnips this Christmas, one of the easiest ways to elevate them is by roasting them in a sticky, flavour-packed glaze. A simple combination of honey and olive oil is the classic choice, but you could also use white miso and maple syrup to create a mouth-watering sweet and salty flavour.
They might get a pretty bad rap, but Brussels sprouts can be truly delicious when you pair them with crispy bacon. Just slice up a bag of Morrisons Brussels sprouts, fry off some chopped bacon, then fry your sprouts in the fat until they’re beautifully golden and caramelised. Finish it all off with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar or lemon juice and you’ve got a side that even the most devout sprout hater will enjoy.
A big dish of cauliflower cheese is always a crowd-pleaser at Christmas – and you only need a handful of ingredients to make it. Just chop your Morrisons cauliflower, boil it and add it to a baking dish with a simple sauce made from flour, butter, milk and cheese. Top it with plenty of grated cheddar, then bake it in the oven until golden and bubbling – it won’t last long after that!
Ideal for making ahead of time, spiced red cabbage always goes down well at Christmas. To make your own, simply shred a Morrisons red cabbage and cook it over a low heat with vegetable stock, red wine vinegar, cinnamon and a splash of port until it’s soft and sticky. As red cabbage is so versatile, you can easily adapt the flavours to suit your tastes – why not try adding caramelised onions, diced apple or fresh ginger?
Laura’s husband Liam always puts on an incredible spread of mouth-watering Christmas trimmings.
