You’ll find new cycling infrastructure opening virtually every day, so it’s never been easier to get around the capital. Plus, because the roads are gritted regularly in winter, there are few days when you can’t ride there. Like many locations across the UK, London has a thriving cycling community. So, whether you want to join a cycling club or go head-to-head in a race, there are a variety of ways you can get involved.

Richmond Park

Head to Richmond Park, the largest of London’s Royal Parks, if you want to spot deer on a leisurely bike ride or try out some speedy laps. The park is known for its large deer population, so do always cycle with caution and keep a distance of at least 50 metres, should you come across any of these majestic animals.

Battersea Park

A peaceful, 200-acre green spot situated on the south bank of the Thames just opposite Chelsea, cycling through Battersea Park is a great way to dodge London’s traffic. Do watch out for speed bumps and pedestrians though.

Swain’s Lane

A punishing hill in leafy north London, Swain’s Lane is arguably one of the city’s most famous and toughest climbs. Thankfully traffic-free, it’s a great place for cyclists to train in relative peace.

Epping Forest

Travel just out of London towards Essex and you’ll come across Epping Forest, a beautiful 2,400-hectare area of ancient woodland with plenty of hills to tackle and explore. Here you’ll find some of the best singletrack in the South East.
