South West England

Say hello to your next cycling adventure with komoot

The south west’s cycling scene may be lesser known than its neighbouring counterparts, but it’s no less exciting. There’s a thriving cycling community here, with cycling clubs available for all ages and capabilities. Plus, local pubs and cafes are always welcoming to cyclists, too. Across the region, you’ll find a fantastic range of bike shops and workshops.

Bannerdown

With a mixture of both steady and steep climbs, Bannerdown is a moderate hill that leads out of the Georgian splendour of Bath.

Frocester Climb

Just a stone’s throw away from the River Severn, the Frocester Climb is a long, steady ascent that will get your heart pumping, but rewards with vast views of the surrounding countryside. With a steady gradient of around 9%, you can easily get into a good rhythm here.

Providence Hill

This route takes you up a steep residential street towards Bristol – a short, sharp shock for anyone’s legs, it’s perfect if you want to miss the weekend crowds. Fortunately, midway there’s some flat land that will allow you to catch your breath.

Veloton, Tetbury

If you’ve worked up an appetite, stop to refuel at one of the region’s cycling cafes such as Veloton, a bicycle and coffee shop in Tetbury. Not only will you get great coffee there, but you could also get some expert cycling advice too!

Emily's top tips for

cycling in South West England

“Don't shy away from the hills! Although with some route-making magic it is often possible, there is something incredibly satisfying about reaching the top of a challenging climb.”
